Lib Dems and Labour Win Two By-Elections and the UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson and his party suffered significant defeats in the local elections in England as the Labour Party triumphed in a number of traditionally Tory councils.
The Liberal Democrats and Labour Party have won two by-elections for the first time in fifty years.

In Richmond, Sarah Olney defeated Zac Goldsmith who triggered the by-election following his resignation as an MP over Heathrow Airport expansion. As a Lib Dem candidate, she had run against him in the 2015 General Election and lost by 23 votes.
In Southport, Fiona Mills beat Labour’s David Laws to become the borough council’s first new Conservative councilor since 2012.
